Athletes impress at Kuliyapitiya Road Races
Athletes from President College Ambagasdowa, Kuliyapitiya Central, Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya Payagala and Wekada Maha Vidyalaya impressed at Road Race events of the All-Island Schools Games held in Kuliyapitiya last Sunday.
Eranga Madushanka Nayanajith of President College Ambagasdowa won the 15kilometre race for Under-15 Boys with a timing of 48 minutes and 45 seconds while his schoolmate Chaminda Nuwan Kumara finished at second after clocking 49 minutes and 31 seconds. Both represented the Uva Province. The third place of the race went to Kavishka Eranga Silva of Bandaranayaka Maha Vidyalaya, Payagala. He Clocked 50 minutes and 20 seconds representing Western Province.
The remaining top ten finishers were — R.A. Lahiru Rukshan (Horombawa MV), L.R. Devinda (Mayurapada Narammala), M.A. Amila Dimuthu Disanayake (St. Mary’s Kegalle), S. Kinthushan (Vavuniya TMMV), J.A.J.T. Jayakody (Ratnalankara MV), E. Keshaka Dilshan (Matara MMV) and T.I. Idhihasans (Saraswathy CC Badulla).
Parami Wasanthi of Kuliyapitiya Central clocked 57 minutes and 58 second to win the Under-15 Girls 15kilometre race while her team mate H.M.B.A. Herath finished at second clocking 1 hour, 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Dilrukshi Samarakoon of Welimada Maha Vidyalaya clocked 1 four, 3 minutes and 5 seconds to finish at third.
Among those who finished in the top ten were H.P Kushani Maduwanthi Jayaweera (Galgamuwa MV), G. Dulakshi Chamodya (Dumbara MMV), E.M.D.N. Kanchana Malkanthi (Welimada MMV), J.A. Imanthi Shalika Jayakody (Galgamuwa MMV), R.A. Lakshika Maduwanthi (Theppanawa Kumara MV Kuruwita), P.M. Thakshila Dilrukshi (President Ambagasdowa) and K. Rasika (Kalawana TV).
Bringing more credit to President College Ambagasdowa R.M. Kaveesha Induwara won the Under-15 Boys 5kilometre Road Race with a timing of 16 minutes and 13 seconds. The second and third places went to two athletes from Wekada Maha Vidyalaya — M. Lakmal Sandeepa Wickramasinghe claimed the second place clocking 16 minutes and 53 second and M. Thilina Madushan was placed third with a timing of 17 minutes and 19 seconds.
The remaining athletes who finished among the top ten were K. Dilshan Madushanka (Bibiledeliya MMV Kuliyapitiya), K. Ravindu Prasad (Kumbukgahamulla MMV), C.P. Kavinda Kushan (Madulla MV), W.K. Dilshan Rukmal (Katukenda MMV), D.A. Dhammika Rajapaksha (Ratnalankara MV Alawwa), P.A. Ishan Dumal (Pannala NS) and G.J. Bingun Arunoda (Boyawalana MV).
The Under-15 Girls 5kilometre Road Race was won by P.H. Lakmali Dulanjali of Siridhamma Vidyalaya Galle, who clocked 20 minutes and 36seconds. She was followed by H.A. Geethmi Sanjana of Bandaranayaka Maha Vidyalaya Payagala, who timed 21 minutes and 43 seconds while Y. Rishanthini of Gawaravila Tamil Vidyalaya Hatton was placed third with a timing of 21 minutes and 58seconds.
The remaining seven athletes who finished among the top ten were E.M. Paboda Madubashini (R.G. Senanayake MV Narammala), E. Piumi Nisansala (Boyawalana MV), S.S.S. de Rosa (Suradutha BMV Kuliyapitiya), W.W. Umesha Roshini (Hunupola MV), K.A. Nipuni Madhushika Vinodini (Pahaladiyadara KV), W.M. Sewmini Wathsala (Kanadulla Dharmapala V) and N. Wasana Maduwanthi (J.R. Jayawardhana NS).
The Road Race was conducted by the Ministry of Education at Kuliyapitiya with the participation of 2400 boys and girls. Nestle Lanka’s Nestomalt provided the sponsorship for the event.
