It’s tonight: SOSL’s Pops concert
View(s):Tonight’s Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka’s Pops concert features some of our country’s most talented musicians in the fields of both classical and contemporary music.
SOSL POPS at the Bishop’s College auditorium at 7 p.m. will shine the spotlight on singers Ashanthi de Alwis, together with Randhir Witana and the choir of the Ashanthi School of Music, as well as veteran Soul Sounds singers Dinushka Jayawickreme and Shehara Liyanage along with Amandhi Caldera.
Young tenor Niran De Mel, a rising star in Sri Lanka’s classical music circles who has just returned from a summer music programme in Vienna will make his first appearance with the SOSL.
Also featured at tonight’s SOSL Pops is a work by Sri Lankan composer Harsha Makalande. The SOSL will be performing his Variations on a Theme from Pavuru Vallalu at the concert. This work, based on a drinking song whistled by a character in the film, is written for guitar and orchestra, and will feature Jude Peiris on guitar.
