Masters VIP on penalties

Master VIP ‘B’ beat Master Sri Lanka (SL) 1-0 on penalties in the final, to annex the title at the 19th Vijayans Trophy Women’s All-Island Inter-Club Hockey 7s 2018, concluded at Edward Park Hockey Ground, Matale.

The 1st session of the closely contested final saw Ayesha Serasinghe scoring the 1st goal for Master SL in 10th minute, to lead by 1-0 at the breather.

After the change of ends, Sachithra Sandarenu equalised for Matale VIP shortly before the final whistle, to make it 1-1 at full time.

At the penalty shootout Master VIP won 1-0, with the winning goal scored by Sandaruwani Jayarathna.

Semifinals

Master SL beat Seetha Devi SC Kandy by 1-0, Nishanthi Kumburegama netting the winning goal, while Master VIP ‘B’ (Sachithra Sandarenu and Mayura Aluvihare 1 each) beat Master VIP ‘A’ 2-0 in the respective semifinals.

Seven women teams participated in the tournament Sobitha Mendis of Master SL was named Best Player.
