The Law Students’ Union will host the National Law Students’ Conference for the second time this year to enable law students across the island to exchange ideas and gain insight into the legal profession. The two-day conference on September 29 and 30 invites students of all institutes providing tertiary legal education. The sessions will discuss pressing socio-economic and political issues based on law.

Any student studying law in Sri Lanka, whether for a local or foreign LLB, is welcome to take part in the conference which will be held at the Sri Lanka Law College and the Water’s Edge, Battaramulla., the union’s public relations head Umayangi Wijayasuriya said.

“This conference gives law students the opportunity to connect with each other and meet professionals under one roof in the very environs of Hulftsdorp and experience the real picture of the legal field in Sri Lanka,” she said. Experienced legal professionals will conduct sessions on a wide variety of topics which are aimed at stimulating interaction, endowment of skills related to critical and academic thinking and networking opportunities.

At the end of the two days of conference, the delegates will formulate an outcome document, copies of which would be sent to the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, Parliament and other stakeholders. The document will contain recommendations made by law students to deal with persistent socio-economic and political issues.

The event’s registration fee is Rs. 2,750 and it gives applicants access to the conference on both days and to the after-event party titled “Legally Addicted” at Waters Edge in Battaramulla.
