Jemimah guides India to 2-nil lead
A quick fire 40 ball knock of 57 inclusive of six boundaries and two sixes by Jemimah Rodrigues paved the way for India Women to record a convincing five wicket win over host Sri Lanka Women in the 3rd T20 encounter played at the CCC ground yesterday. The win saw the Indians take a 2-0 lead in the five series after the 2nd T20 was abandoned due to bad weather.
Jemimah guided the side after they had lost two early wickets in pursuit of a modest target of 132 runs as she was associated in two brief partnerships for the second and third wicket and then a valuable 53 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to bring them close to victory.
Jemimah was fifth out and her dismissal saw the India women needing 19 runs from 25 balls which they achieved with the minimum of fuss with ten balls to spare.
Earlier in the day Sri Lanka Women invited to take first lease of the wicket had fluctuating fortunes and at the halfway stage of the innings they had just 53 runs on the board with three back in the pavilion which included skipper Chamari Atapattu who made 28.
Shashikala Siriwardena who made a top score of 35 added 31 runs with Eshani Kaushalya for the fourth wicket before being dismissed. This followed with Eshani and Nilakshi de Silva who chipped in with a 31 adding 20 runs for the firth wicket and the host side at this stage on 102 for 5 in the 17th over.
The two sides will play their fourth match on September 24 at the same venue.
