Students at Anamaduwa Paliyagama Sharipuththa Vidyalaya in the Puttalam District, were gifted IT equipment with Internet facility, Musical Instruments, Sports equipment, Home Science utensils, Refrigerators and other essentials to the value of more than Rs 1 million by the Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), in collaboration with the Colombo Royalty Lions Club (CRLC).

Selection of this remote school with 34 students, for this donation, was decided by Army Chief Lt.Gen. Mahesh Senanayake and ASVU President Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, on an initiative by an old boy of the school, Warrant Officer (Rtd.) I.S. Jayantha who had served as a Regimental Sergeant Major at Army Headquarters, some time ago.

The CRLC came forward with the assistance and agreed to partner the ASVU for this worthy cause, after the school’s needs were brought to its attention, the SLA said. Scholarships of Rs 1,500 per student were also awarded to students with special needs, for a period of 3 years, under this donation programme. The ASVU sponsored the purchase of Musical Instruments.
