Thejaka’s amazing run at Buddhi
Thejaka Dissanayake won the Equal Championship at the 9th ‘Buddhi International Chess Festival’ held in Yakkala with the approval of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. He tied with Fide Master L.M.S.T. de Silva by scoring 9 out of 10 possible points.
Thejaka, 15, has also won the bronze medal at the National Youth Chess Championship in 2015 and represented Sri Lanka at the World Youth Chess Championship held in Greece in the same year.
In 2016 he won the bronze medal Under-13 boy’s category at the Sri Lankan Schools Individual Chess Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Chess Association, represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Schools Chess Championship in Iran and at the World Schools Chess Championship.
Thejaka is a student from Dharmaraja College Kandy, and his coach is the former national champion and Olympiad gold medalist Fide Master Rajeendra Kalugampitiya. Thejaka is grateful for his school principal, staff and his family for their unconditional support towards his success.
