Katana PS launches e-service and revives cultural activities
The Katana Pradeshiya Sabha is fast becoming an exemplary local authority by adopting innovative methods to improve services to residents.
It recently launched a hi-tech programme titled “e-PuraNeguma” to give the public easy access to information on the pradeshiya sabha’s services.
Another programme the pradeshiya sabha launched recently was Koho. The programme was aimed at reviving the library maintained by the pradeshiya sabha. It was initiated under the supervision of Harsha Balasooriya, Senior Assistant Librarian at the Open University in Nawala. The library now is a bustling place with some 2,500 being already enrolled as members.
Librarian Lalitha Deva Surendra said that the Katana PS library was not just another institution lending only books. “We want to see our area people physically and mentally healthy and we encourage them to become active members of our cultural activities,” she said.
The library was adjudged the best library in the Gampaha District. “A drama titled ‘Mama Thamai Oya’ was presented by our members and this won the first place in the Gampaha District this year too,” she said.
