Schoolboy Football talent takes centre stage
The 14th edition of Zahira Super 16 7-a-side Football Championship organised by the Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College, will reach new heights, when this year’s competition takes place on Saturday, October 6, at the Racecourse ground in Colombo, as its official venue, on 3 different playing fields.
Zahira College Colombo has excelled in Football for the last 10 decades and easily contributed to the Sport at National level, by producing players and top coaches,” the organiser’s media release stated.
Annually, 16 leading Football playing schools from around the country, will participate in this tournament, where Schoolboy Footballers will be afforded the opportunity to showcase their talents, skills and abilities in Football, on a large scale.
“Shorter formats in any sport brings much excitement to the spectators. This time it will be a 7s format where the skills and thrills of Football will be a treat to watch, which will eventually, ensure greater crowd turnout at the tournament.”
The 16 teams will be sponsored by different franchises and will receive customised kits according to their respective school colours. The teams and their sponsors are” De Mazenod College Kandana (Drypers), Nalanda College Colombo (May Flower Holidays), Gateway College Colombo (A Brand), Royal College Colombo (Amana Bank), Hindu College Colombo (SKP Bag Centre), St. Benedict’s College Kotahena (EFL), Isipathana College Colombo 5 (Signature), St. Joseph’s College Colombo 10 (Futsal World), Lumbini College Havelock Town (Print House), St. Peter’s College Colombo 4 (HRMI), Lyceum International School (Decathlon), Wesley College Colombo (United Travels &Tours), Manipay Hindu College Jaffna (Milan Ceramic), Zahira College Gampola (LOLC Al-Falaah), Maris Stella College Negombo (MF Sports) and hosts Zahira College Colombo 10 (Date Crown).
The main Sponsor of this year’s edition will be Cool Planet while Decathlon, May Flower and Date Crown have come aboard as Associate Sponsors. The tournament officials will be experts of local and foreign Football, recommended by the Ministry of Education and the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
