South Asian Economics Students’ Meet in Jan. 2019 in Colombo
View(s):The South Asian Economics Students’ Meet (SAESM), one of the prominent undergraduate events in the South Asian academic calendar, will be held in Colombo in January 2019.
The SAESM aims at providing a platform for young economists to enhance and share their academic knowledge while providing new avenues to find answers to promising development challenges in the region
Established in 2004 through the initiation of leading economics departments in the region, the upcoming SAESM will be the 15th of its kind since the first meet in New Delhi. The World Bank has been a key partner in success for many years providing a silent evidence for international recognition of the event.
SAESM 2019 will be held in Colombo from January 21 to 26 under the theme “Development in South Asia: Challenges and Opportunities.” The Department of Economics, University of Colombo will take the leading initiatives in organizing the upcoming event with collaboration from SAESM India and SAESM Pakistan, local organisers said.
The annual gathering will bring over 100 energetic young economists from across South Asia together with another 150 from Sri Lanka to share their own research work, take part in academic competitions, and also to learn different values and cultures of their neighbours.
Over the years young Sri Lankan economists have been able to raise the name of their motherland to the highest level in South Asia. Ms.Chathuni Uduwela, Mr.Sajith Marlon De.Silva and Mr.Naveen Wickremeratne are few of these outstanding young economists.
