Appointment of sacked zonalofficer opposed by CTU
View(s):The appointment of a Zonal Education Director, who has been sacked from several Educational Zones in the Eastern Province (EP), as the EP Education Director, has irked the trade unions who are threatening trade union action, unless he is removed from the post.
The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) said that Mr. M.K.M. Mansoor had been thrown out from the Zonal Education offices of Samanthurai, Kalmunai and Muthur, for his dishonest and corrupt behaviour but, despite his unethical conduct in the past, he has been appointed as the EP Education Director.
CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin alleged that Mr. Manzoor has a case (No. PC/P671/B2017) pending at the Samanthurai MC for embezzling UNICEF funds given for development of EP schools, in addition to 2 ongoing disciplinary inquiries against him at the Provincial Education Ministry.
He alleged that the vacancy of the EP Education Director has been filled without following due process. “It should have been gazetted and filled but, without doing this, they have simply appointed Mr Manzoor for the post,” he said.
Mr Stalin said they have written to the EP Governor, bringing the issue to his notice. “If immediate action is not taken, we will not hesitate to protest/strike,” he said.
