Thomians win Neville De Alwis Trophy
S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia Under-20 stickers defeated Trinity College, Kandy 3-0 to win the Neville De Alwis Trophy at their annual encounter played at the Thomians Grounds last weekend.
Thomian center forward Savindu Wanigasooriya scored a hat-trick of goals for the school by the sea. Thomians adopting a fast run and pass game kept the Trinity defenders busy while occupying their goal area in most of the playing time. Thomians led 2-0 in the first half and finished the game in their favour adding another goal in the second half.
The Under-16 match between both schools ended a in a 1-1 draw played for the B.G.S. Sahayan Trophy.K.D. Dulmith Perera scored for the Thomians while R.A.D. Thrilakshana sounded the board for the hill capital school.
In the final match of the hockey carnival between the Old Boys of both school played for the Mirzan Ousmand trophy too ended in a 1-1 draw. Old Thomian Dinesh Wickremasinghe drew first blood for the Thomians and in the dying moments of the game Trinity’s Krishanthan Subramanium scored the equaliser.
