CID blunder further delays ruling on Ravi K.’s case
View(s):A ruling whether court should allow to proceed in the case regarding former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake allegedly giving false evidence before the Central Bank Bond Commission, has been further delayed until next week. The delay was caused after the Criminal Investigation Department submitted to Courts the wrong CD containing the former Minister’s evidence before the Commission.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayaka said the order will be delivered on October 10. The court had directed the CID, to submit Mr Karunanayake’s August 2, 2017, evidence to the Bond Commission on, to courts. CID told court that the mistake had taken place while downloading the said evidence, and tendered an apology to courts.
Earlier, the CID had obtained a court order to record statements of Mr Karunanayake and 6 others to obtain their mobile phone records, in order to file action against the former Minister on allegations that he made false statements during his evidence before the Bond Commission.
However, Shivendra Fernando P.C. claimed the case was contrary to Law and obtained a court order suspending the investigations.
