Counter Terrorism, Appropriations Bills in Parliament on Tuesday
View(s):Two important Bills, namely the Counter Terrorism Bill and the Appropriations Bill will be presented in Parliament on Tuesday. The Counter Terrorism Bill, to be presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will replace the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, No. 48 of 1979. This new Bill provides for the protection of Sri Lanka and its people from acts of terrorism and other offences associated with terrorism.
It also provides for the prevention of terrorism and other offences associated with terrorism committed within or outside Sri Lanka, and prevents the use of Sri Lanka’s territory and its people for the preparation of terrorism outside Sri Lanka, detection of acts of terrorism and other offences associated with terrorism and identification, apprehension, arrest, custody, detention, investigation, prosecution and punishment of any person who has committed an act of terrorism or any other offence associated with terrorism.
Minister of Finance & Mass Media will present the Appropriations Bill which provides for the service of financial year 2019, and authorises the raising of loans, in or outside Sri Lanka, and makes financial provision in respect of certain activities of the Government during that financial year.
