NLDB Chairman remanded for bribery
View(s):National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) Chairman M.K. Muthuvinayagam, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission, was yesterday remanded till October 18, after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The NLDB Chairman and an associate were arrested by Bribery Commission sleuths on Friday, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 600,000. Bribery Commission Director- Investigations, SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said the NLDB Chairman had, initially, demanded a bribe of Rs 1.2 million to expedite the lease of a canteen at the Melsiripura NLDB Farm for a period of two years. This amount had subsequently been negotiated down to Rs 600,000.
The alleged bribe had been negotiated through the 2nd suspect, identified as Kadiresu Sivanesan, who is an Accounts Assistant in a private company belonging to the NLDB Chairman. Both men were arrested on charges of soliciting the bribe.
