Salley apologises to Upul Jayasuriya in open court
View(s):Colombo’ former Deputy Mayor Azath Salley has apologized in the District Court of Colombo to the Board of Investment’s former chairman Upul Jayasuriya for defamatory statements made against him in 2016
The apology in open court followed Mr. Salley’s admission that the derogatory comments made on July 14, 2016 at a news conference at the People’s Intellectual Association (PIA) premises against Mr. Jayasuriya and his family members were fake and factually incorrect.
He also apologised to Mr. Jayasuriya and the members of his family and said he regretted any pain of mind and damage caused to the honour and integrity of Mr. Jayasuriya and his family members and wished to withdraw these statements.
In court, Mr. Jayasuriya accepted Mr. Salley’s apology and agreed to settle the matter. Along with the retraction of the defamatory statements against Mr. Jayasuriya and his family members, Mr. Salley was directed to sign the court record.
