Two shows of Dharmasiri Bandaranayake’s award-winning theatrical venture, ‘Dhawala Bheeshana’ will go on the boards at 6.30 p.m. on October 14, at the open air theatre at Mahalwarawa in Pannipitiya and at 3.00 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. at the Central College Auditorium in Piliyandala on October 20.

Started in 1988, ‘Dhawala Bheeshana’ has enthralled the local theatre lovers, securing nine coveted awards including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Lighting at the State Drama Festival of 1990.

Based on “Men Without Shadows” by French playwright Jean Paul Satre made in 1944, the play is set in occupied France. A resistance squad is captured by collaborating countrymen and held for debriefing. What price will they pay to preserve their secret? The play is translated by Cyril C Perera and music direction of the play is by Premasiri Khemadasa

Till 2002, ‘Dhawala Bheeshana’ succeeded in staging 900 performances successfully. Almost after a decade of ‘silence’, the play with a powerful political message has come back to theatres.

‘Dhawala Beeshana’ is presented by TrikonE Cultural Foundation.
