Lines that connect her losses, gains, hopes and dreams
View(s):Membrane, an exhibition by Krishnapriya Tharamakrishnar will be open to the public from October 18-31 at Art Space Sri Lanka.
Krishnapriya’s previous body of work focused on the expectation of a mother’s affection, as one of the most valuable perceptions of love in one’s life. As an infant, Krishnapriya lost this sacred and indispensable bond leaving her in a constant endeavour to understand the core of maternal love, kindness and care.
The recurring symbol in her work is the womb, the origin of human life. Her new series “Membrane” is once again a representation of the artist’s inner feelings and yearnings. Her sketches have been designed as ‘breathing’ structures, as if we are scientifically examining membranes through a microscope. In an effort to expose her void of a mother’s love, mentally and physically, she aims to reveal herself to the viewer. Thin white lines gently inscribe braided patterns, veins and figures on a soft paper background.
Overall the lines represent the variable direction of her life. They resemble the wiring of her past, her gains and losses, as well as her future hopes and dreams.
