Vijaya House are overall swim champs
View(s):Vijaya House with 908 points won the Overall Championship at the Ananda College Inter House Swimming Championship 2018 concluded at the Ananda College Swimming Pool Complex recently.
Vijaya House sailed to grab the championship honours with a clear led of 214 points over Asoka House. Gemunu House occupied the 3rd place with 627 points while Parakrama House with 619 points finished last.
Ananda College swimmers were among the first four schools that competed in the Schools Team swimming championships. At the 44th National Age Group Swimming C’ship Ananda were the first runner-up with 271 points behind champions St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. The leading Buddhist institution of Sri Lanka finished at the second place at the National Age Group relay championship 2018 with a total of 98. Ananda occupies the 3rd place at the Pentathlon Swimming Championship 2018 scoring 21 points.
In the individual events too Ananda swimmers stole the limelight when her swimmers in the caliber of Chathusha Dalpathadu, Santhusha Mallawaarachchi, Abishek Weerasinghe, qualified with timing at the trials for the 18th Asian Games and 3rd Youth Olympic Games.
Dalpathadu timed 1:10.79mts at the Boys 100m backstroke, and timed 32.00secs to qualify for the 50m Breaststroke event. Weerasinghe with timings of 25.67secs, 27.02secs reached the qualifying timings at the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly events.
The swimming meet was held under the patronage of Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, a distinguished old boy who was the commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and played a major role in the ethnic war.
