Dengue prevention: Three-day conference with a difference
View(s):Dengue prevention through drones is just one aspect that will make a three-day conference organised by the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka from October 24-26 in Colombo different. There will be much more – a light bulb that may kill influenza viruses; rice fortification with zinc; value addition for graphite; more drones to check air-quality; and 3-D printing for artificial limbs, the Sunday Times learns.
Aptly themed the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution and Healthcare – Extended Life in the Digital Era’, the conference has been organised by the College of Medical Administrators, headed by Dr. Sujatha Senaratne, in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the World Health Organization’s Country Office for Sri Lanka.
More than 500 participants, both local and foreign, are expected to attend the conference, with 10 foreign faculties from the United States of America and Australia. It will draw both medical and non-medical professionals, including those in the fields of law, sociology and more.
Health Ministry’s Director of Health Information, Dr. A.I. Jagoda said that we live in an era of unprecedented rapid technological transformation fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, steadily leading towards the introduction of innovative technologies. This is taking us to the heights of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’.
“These impact more than economics on values, identities and possibilities for future generations. It is predicted that healthcare will benefit the most from this technological transformation. As stated at the World Economic Forum, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, representing the convergence of biological, social and digital systems (cyber physical systems) will transform the entire health and healthcare of rich and poor countries alike,” he said.
