Rain hampers day two proceedings
Rain hampered proceedings in most of the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounters and a full day’s play was not possible which resulted in them in ending in first inning wins.
St Joseph’s recorded an easy first inning win over Maliyadeva at Darley Road. Maliyadeva resuming from their overnight score of 28 for 2 were bowled out for 212.
The opening day’s play saw St Joseph’s taking first lease of the wicket scoring 341. Shevon Daniel top scored with 116 and that included 15 boundaries and three sixes. Besides Daniel, Sheran Fonseka and Miranga Wickramage also scored 83 and 61 not out respectively.
Richmond despite having Ananda in a spot of bother had to be satisfied with a first innings win at the Sooriyawewa Stadium.
The second day’s play saw Ananda resuming from their overnight score of 31 for 2 being bundled out for 110. Amshi de Silva bagged four scalps along with Kalpa Nethsara and Dilum Sudeera shared six wickets. Ananda made to follow on was on 52 for 3 when play was called off early due to rain.
Richmond scored 277 for 8 declared on day one.
Zahira too recorded a first inning win over De Mazenod at Maradana.
There was no play in the match between Wesley and St Benedict’s on day two at Campbell Park with the match being abandoned due to wet outfield.
A knock of 113 by Madusanka Fernando and a half ton by Lahiru Peiris saw Christ King College Ja-Ela making a formidable score of 354 for 7 declared against Methodist College Moratuwa.
