1st Student in 46-year-old rural school to pass Grade 5
View(s):For the 1st time in the 46-year history of the Debarawewa Junior School, Tissamaharama, a student has passed the Grade 5 Scholarship exam.The students is J. Ravishi Uththara who obtained 173 marks. She studied under severe hardship and lives with her grandmother. She was assisted in her work by the teacher in charge of the students A.J.A. Jayalatha, and other members of the staff., said Principal S.A. Kusumalatha.
“Most of the students at the school did well, with 6 students doing very well by obtaining between 120-173 marks,” she said. Meanwhile, M.G.Tharusha Sithum of Mahasenapura MV with 190 marks was the top scorer in the Grade 5 Scholarship exam, and the 2nd highest scorer in the Hambantota Educational Zone and 11th in the Hambantota District
Principal H.C. Nuwan Manjula said this is a great honour for the school. “It is indeed a remarkable achievement by a student whose parents have no proper jobs and struggle to make a living.” - Rukman Ratnayaka
