Lover’s Leap –where man alone is vile
View(s):The Nuwara Eliya District is one of the biggest tourist attractions in this country. Unfortunately, the security of visitors to some parts of this picturesque district has been called into question.
One such location is the surroundings of the ‘Lover’s Leap Waterfall’ on the western boundary of the Piduruthalagala Forest Reserve.
A meeting of the Regional Development Committee it was recently informed that foreigners are being robbed of cash and valuables by drivers of three wheelers and tourist guides.
At the meeting it was alleged that drivers of the 50 or more three-wheeled vehicles which transport foreign tourists to the waterfall and tourist guides combine to rob purses, cameras, phones and other valuables belonging to tourists.
Both local and foreign tourists have complained about this unhappy state of affairs. More recently tourists have complained of being threatened by drivers of three-wheelers.
