UPM: Undemocratic action led to current crisis
View(s):The United Professionals Movement (UPM) said this week that the political conflict instigated on October 26 is not an attempt by the President of Sri Lanka to provide any sincere solution to the burning political, social and economic issues but rather an unethical and undemocratic action based on personal agenda and benefit sans the people of Sri Lanka.
The Maithripala Sirisena –Ranil Wickremesinghe Yahapalana Regime received the mandate of the people after a 10-year rule under President Mahinda Rajapakse’s regime, as an indication of a rejection by the people of Sri Lanka.
However, in a very short space of time the Yahapalana promised-government broke all promises made prior to being elected by an overwhelming peoples’ mandate based on principles for the first time in the history of a democratic vote.
Together the ‘Maithripala-Ranil government violated the trust placed in them and once again handed over power to the rejected power base that brought misery to Sri Lanka, the UPM statement said.
“The Maithripala Sirisena –Mahinda Rajapaksa union never had or ever will have solutions to primary economic, political or social problems and issues facing the people and our country. Similar to the ‘Yahapalana’ partnership this union is another instant power mission without any realistic programme of action to provide solutions,” it said, adding: “It is clear that the objective was to seize power at the earliest opportunity and continue where they stopped in 2015, to plunder the country’s economy, manipulate the law to fulfil political gains at will and satisfy the personal agenda taking independent unilateral decision.”
The UPM firmly stands for law and order, justice, good governance based on democratic principles upholding the supreme will of the people of Sri Lanka.
The UPM believes that professionals and patriots should rally together as “one” to denounce this ridiculous charade of the current politicians and unite to professionally craft a new developed Sri Lanka.
