The impending release of the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – the new biopic of British band Queen — has many people around Sri Lanka as well as the world all abuzz. Several events celebrating the release and the movie itself have been taking place all over Colombo.

High Commissioner James Dauris

On October 31, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, James Dauris hosted a reception at the High Commission along with 20th Century Fox and Skyline Entertainment Pvt. Ltd to celebrate the launch of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Speaking at the reception, the High Commissioner said, “This film is a celebration. It’s a celebration of a great band and of Freddie Mercury and their success around the world. It is also a celebration of Britain’s great cinema industry … and third it’s a celebration of diversity. This is a film about diversity as much as it’s about Queen’s success.”

What he wants people to take away from the film is that “celebrating and cherishing diversity in all its forms is important and empowering and adds real richness to all of our societies,” the High Commissioner added.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ will be released at Scope cinemas on November 9. The official media partner of the release is TNL Radio. Also involved in the film’s release in Sri Lanka is ‘Film is GREAT’, a campaign that promotes the UK film industry.

These events have been delivered by Skyline Entertainment Pvt Ltd, in association with 20th Century Fox. The livestream of the world premiere in London happened on October 24, to a few people who managed to log on to TNL Radio’s Facebook page. The fan screening took place at Scope cinemas on October 30, where another set of Queen fans were able to watch the movie ahead of the US and Sri Lankan release. The red carpet premiere was on November 1 at Scope cinemas multiplex.
