Ratmalana Airport to accommodate corporate jets

Sri Lanka’s city airport, the Ratmalana Airport has called for bids from international corporate jets seeking to appoint one fixed based operator for a five year period, operating from this airport.

The Request for Proposals (RFPs) were called around mid October and will be closed by November 31, the airport’s Manager Aruna Rajapaksa told the Business Times.
He noted that since Sri Lanka lacks having an international corporate jet operator, the Ratmalana Airport could service this need as a location which is to the country’s advantage.

This would also open the space for the creation of more jobs in the market and stated that this would be in line with the increasing demand for corporate jet travel by the end of next year.

Of the bids that would be received only one operator would be picked to carry out operations on the ground as a fixed base operator, Mr. Rajapaksa said.

In 2017 the Ratmalana Airport handled 576 aircraft movements and this year the airport is expected to see a surge by 10 per cent, the Airport Manager said.
