Kapila Jayalath, present Vice President and the former General Secretary of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) passed away after a brief illness. A vital cog of the Dialog-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year programme, Kapila was 53 at the time of his demise. A teacher by profession, he began his career in 1992. He was engaged in teaching for 26 years, beginning at Gamini National School Bentota, at Sri Devananda Maha Vidyalaya Ambalangoda and Karandeniya Central, where Jayalath was also the Cricket Master-in-Charge at the time of his death.

Jayalath has been synonymous with cricket. He was an official, an umpire, a commentator and an administrator. He was the General Secretary of SLSCA during 2016/17 and was a General Secretary of the Association of Cricket Umpires in Sri Lanka, He played pivotal roles in schools cricket as an umpire, master-in-charge, cricket commentator and an administrator.

Jayalath will make his final journey today (Sunday, November 18) from ‘Sumana Medura’, R.E. de Silva Mawatha, Heppumulla, Ambalangoda to the General Cemetery of Ambalangoda at 4.00pm.
