Ave Maria Convent clinches two championships
Ave Maria Convent Negombo clinched two championships at the All-Island Schools Division ‘A’ Cool Junior Tennis Tournament held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo. In addition to Ave Maria Convent, two schools from the region — Newstead Girls School and St. Joseph’s College too pocketed titles making Negombo proud.
Ave Maria Convent won the Girls Red Ball and Girls Orange Ball segments while their hometown rivals Newstead Girls School clinched the Girls Green Ball title. St. Peter’s College won the Boys Red Ball championship while St. Joseph’s College Negombo won the Boys Green Ball title. Maliyadeva College Kurunegala stamped their authority in by winning the Boys’ Orange Ball segment.
The tournament accommodated 800 young tennis players from a total of 80 school teams from across the island. The three-day competition was organised and conducted by the SLTA and was held at the SLTA courts from November 9 to 11.
