Rifath, Slasa help Zahira gain first innings points

Mohamed Rifath (5 for 28) and Imtiaz Slasa (3 for 45) helped Zahira College recorded a first innings win over fancied St. Peter’s College in their U-19 Inter-school cricket match concluded at Zahira ground in Maradana yesterday.
The second day’s play saw St. Peter’s resuming from their overnight score of 14 for 1 succumbing to Rifath and Slasa who grabbed three scalps for a low score of 122. This was in reply to Zahira’s modest score of 194 which came on the back of a half ton by Mohamed Dilhan and useful knock’s of 40’s made by Slasa and Dilsara Savinda. Zahira batting the second time made a score of 101 for 9 declared before bad light put a stoppage to proceedings with Peterite Kanishka Maduwantha returning impressive bowling figures of 6 for 29.
Meanwhile St. Joseph Vaz hit 172 for the loss of nine wickets after electing to bat first against Dharmaraja at Kandy.
Omila Nilipul and Chamila Kithmal shared nine wickets between them to bundle out St. John’s Nugegoda for a low score of 88 at Bentota. A knock of 83 by Hashen Januka later helped Gamini National School Bentota to end the day on 164 for 5.
A ton by Chamuditha Kalhara and a half ton by Dileesha Sankalpa helped Sri Chandrajothi MMV Yakkala make a score of 205 against Sri Sumangala Kelaniya who ended day one on 49 for 0 in the match played at Yakkala.
