Wilmune Digital Library -a learning cum training centre
The Wilmune Digital Library in Kandy, with its stock of nineteen thousand books and a membership of four thousand members is unique.
The library is also serves as the training centre for the 45 librarians of the Central Province.
This library which on two occasions was selected as the best library in the country by the National Service Libaray Board has also won five awards from the Central Provincial Council.
Unfortunately however, according to the Librarian W.M.M.R.M.Weerasekera, the library situated in the Hettipola Pradeshiya Sabha area is still housed in the same old dilapidated building which was constructed in 1970s.
According to Ms. Weerasekera the library functions along the same lines as digital libraries elsewhere. It charges an annual subscription of Rs. 30/- from students and Rs. 60/- from adults. In addition, a service charge of Rs. 250/- is charged for digital card which bears a photograph of the member.
The Wilmune library has four other libraries coming under its purview in the PS Division.
Ms Sandya Puspakanthi Librarian at the Libaray Services Board is responsible for organising training programmes.
