Colours Nite at St. Thomas’ Matale
Anjana Chathurinda Bandara Parahitiyawa was crowned the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the year 2018 for his excellent performance in hockey at the ‘Colours Nite’ of St. Thomas’ college Matale held recently at the college auditorium.
A total of 149 young Thomians received colours and certificates of excellence in recognition of their achievements in the field of sports at the colours award ceremony which was organized by the sports council of the college under the guidance of principal K.A.G. Kulasooriya.
A distinguished old boy of St. Thomas’ Matale Squadron leader Sampath Premawardhana graced the occasion as the chief guest with another old Thomian Dayan Dissanayake (international hockey umpire) as the guest of honour.
‘Rising Sun’ is the highest award and the three recipients for this prestigious accolade were Shasintha Dilshan Dissanayake , A.C.B. Parahitiyawa and Anuruddha Thilina Bandara Ranaweera who excelled in the game of hockey.
Nipuna Sankalpa Balasooriya (rugger) , Shehan Awandhya (cricket), Anuruddha Thilina Bandara Ranaweera (hockey), Tharaka Bandara Samarakoon (athletics) , Janith Medawaththa (karate), Sgt. Weerasinghe W.M.W.L. (cadetting), Milan Wickramasinghe (volley ball) and Kavishka Nishantha (scouting) were the eight students who received best player awards for the year 2018.
The following students were honoured as up and coming sportsmen Randika Premasiri (cadetting) , Tharusha Siriwardhana (scouting), Nirmal Gamakumara (volley ball), Adithya Liyanage (rugger), T.T. De Silva (karate). Udith Dissanayake (hockey), Pasan Herath (cricket) and Buddila Rajapakshe (athletics).
