Nugegoda S&WS seeks legal help on promotion
View(s):Colombo District Court issued an interim injunction on 14th December restraining SLC from conducting Major Club Tier B cricket tournament. The petitioner Nugegoda S&WS has prayed for an interim order after they were denied of a promotion to the Major Club Tier B Division.
In a recently concluded Governor’s Cup Cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka cricket between Unichela CC and Nugegoda S&WS, Unichela CC was found guilty playing a non registered player at the De Soysa Stadium on 10th and 11th of November 2018. The player concerned had represented Kandy Sports Club in the Inter Provincial and Governor’s Trophy tournaments during the 2017/18 same season.
On the protest of the Nugegoda S&W Club Unichela having found guilty and were fined a sum of Rs. 50,000/-. Thereafter SLC had announced the result as a no-decision match which had deprived Nugegoda from heading the points table. Nugegoda in a request to the SLC seeking a promotion to play in the Major Club Tier ‘B’ Tournament 2018/19, sent, dated 25th September 2018.
Of the four clubs that competed in the Governor’s Trophy namely Kandy Customs, Nugegoda S&WC, Unichela CC and Ambepussa Sinha SC; only Nugegoda Club is an affliated club which is having voting rites at SLC and eligible for promotion.
In a similar incident in the Sara Trophy match between Negombo CC and Sebastianites C&AC, the latter was found guilty of playing unqualified players in their playing XI and the match was awarded to Negombo CC.
In the final points table of Governor’s Trophy issued by the SLC reads as follows:
Kandy Customs SC 33.215, Nugegoda S&WS 26.805, Unichela CC 20.255, Ambepussa Sinha SC 8.635.
