ST. Mary’s Montessori Christmas Concert and Convocation
View(s):St. Mary’s Montessori celebrated their 34th Christmas Concert and convocation on the 22nd of November 2018 at BMICH main hall, conducted by the Principal Mrs. Antoinette Samaranayake, Vice –Principal Miss. Thakshila Jayatilake and the staff. The chief guest was Very Rev. Dr. Susith Silva, Phd in Psychology (USA), our guests of honour Visharada Chandrika Siriwardhana, former directress of music ministry of education, Dr. Darshan Perera Director of Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology and Lion Pradeep Wijeratna, district cabinet secretary lions international 306 B2 and general manager of AMW Motors Ltd.
The concert had a wonderful line up of drama and songs with 27 items, presented by the young talents from the age between 2 to 5 years. Very Rev. Dr. Susith Silva highlighted family commitment is necessary towards building better environment for children in order to provide educational development through the Montessori’s. Visharada Chandrika Siriwardhana highlighted such public performance is necessary to reduce stage fear. Dr. Darshan Perera highlighted that parents should not give gadgets for children since such affects the child’s cognitive development. Lion Pradeep Wijeratna highlighted what is Lionism and how they help needy people.
The main events of the programme were different dance items representing Kandyan culture, folk dance, Ukusa Wannama, belly dance, welcome speech by the children in all three languages (Sinhala, English and Tamil), Eastern and Western Band display, Tamil dance, English and Sinhala action songs, Musical Broadway, sword dance, and a Bollywood dance and then the speeches of the guests. 85 students participated at the convocation and as a special event, 5 Jack trees were distributed for the past pupils to develop an eco friendly environment. (100 Jack trees were already distributed for children on the Children’s Day 1st of October 2018 at Montessori premises by the Lions Club of Kandana/Jaela). Finally Santa visited the children as a closing remark of the concert.
