11 division army troops build home for their civil staffer
View(s):The 11th Division of the Security Force Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-Central), constructed a house on a 7-perch block of land, for a casual employee -Karunaratne -whose daughter was killed when a boulder fell on their house at Pallekele, Kandy on 28 October 2017.
The house was handed over to Karunaratne and his family on Thursday
Seven-year-old Udari Shehara of Hindagala, Mahakanda Peradeniya succumbed to her injuries when a huge boulder fell on the roof of their house, following a landslide and crushed her to death. The child was asleep when the disaster struck.
As Karunaratne, who had worked for the 11th Division for three-and-a-half years did not have the capacity to either buy land or construct a house, land for the construction of the house was provided by the Divisional Secretariat of Gangawata Korale in Hindagala, Doluwa area in Peradeniya.
The cost of construction material was borne by the Ven Embilgama Pangnnakitthi Nayake Thero, incumbent of the Hindagala Raja Maha Viharaya who supplied all the raw-materials needed for the construction of the house. The house was constructed by the military, on the orders of Major-General T.J. Nanayakkara, (General Officer Commanding, 11 Division).
The new house was handed over by Major General T.J Nanayakkara in the presence of Divisional Secretariat officials.
Ven Embilgama Pangnnakitthi Nayake Thera, was also present at the ceremony.
