Joint police, STF, army search for suspect in Puliyankulam
View(s):A joint search operation is underway in Puliyankulum, Vavuniya to apprehend a suspect who had fled into the jungle leaving behind a bag containing arms and amunition.

“A cordon and search operation was underway in a joint operation conducted by the police, the Special Task Force (STF) and the army to apprehend the suspect. The Vavuniya Magistrates Court has also been informed” the police said.
The incident occurred last week when the police on a tip-off approached an individual walking parallel to the railway track in a uninhabited area in north west Puliyankulm, said a senior security service officer who wished to remain anonymous.
The bag contained four fragmentation grenades, a Makarov Pistol and two types of pistol ammunition. “The pistol found in the bag was with its safety catch off, a full magazine and a round in its chamber” he said.
The presence of two types of 9mm ammunition in the bag, one compatible with the pistol and the other not, indicated thatanother weapon was also in the possession of the man who fled, he said.
Two mobile phones, a power bank with a solar panel and a compass was also found in the bag along with a number of other personal items including insect repellent, screwdriver and some medicine.
