Two killed, one injured in pre-dawn truck accident in Jaela
View(s):Two people were killed and another seriously injured when a container truck skidded across the road and smashed into a house at Weligampitiya in Ja-Ela early yesterday, residents said. They said the truck was being driven at high speed and the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle, resulting it veering off course towards the people outside a shop and then crashing into a nearby house. No one in the house was hurt in the incident which took place at around 2.30 a.m. yesterday on the Colombo-Negombo main road.
A pedestrian who was outside the shop was killed on the spot. He was identified as a 32-year-old resident of Morawaka. The other victim was the truck driver’s assistant. His body was recovered from the wreckage last morning. The container driver suffered serious injuries and was trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Residents and passers by struggled for some time and took him out. He was rushed to the Colombo North Hospital in Ragama.
