Nuwara Eliya on alert for ‘sena caterpillar’
View(s):The agriculture division of the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat, along with support from other state agencies, has launched a programme to prevent the spread of the invasive ‘Sena’ caterpillar in the Nuwara Eliya district.
Public Health Inspectors assisted by the police scrutinised stocks of maize at the Nuwara Eliya weekly market last week
As part of the programme, Public Health Inspectors from the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council yesterday visited the Nuwara Eliya weekly market and subjected stocks of maize from the Mahiyangana area to a thorough inspection.
The inspectors instructed traders to remove the leaves from the maize prior to sale and to take steps to destroy the leaves no sooner they were removed.
