Foreign Masters Degrees for Graduate Education officers
View(s):About 300 Education officers will be sent overseas for studies to groom staff, fill vacancies when high ranking officers retire.
In a strategic initiative the Ministry of Education (MoE) together with the Higher Education Ministry (HEM) will send young graduate officers in the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS), Sri Lanka Teacher Educator Service (SLTES) and National Institute of Education (NIE), for their Masters Degree in subjects relevant to their disciplines, to reputed overseas universities.
The project titled the General Education Modernisation (GEM) Project funded by the World Bank, will provide long term learning opportunities for teacher educators who will be the next generation of officials holding top seats in the Education sector, to improve the performance of the Education system.
Eligible candidates should be below 45 years and SLTES officers of Class III/II/I, possess a Bachelor’s Degree, be permanent officer of the government service, proficient in English, at least of IELTS level 6.0 and have basic computer skills. Priority will be given to those who do not hold a Masters Degree.
Selected candidates have to sign a bond and an agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka to serve a definite period in the MoE, on their return.
The course duration is expected to be between 12 to 18 months. The MoE and HEM are also considering a distant mode of education where candidates could attend lectures in an overseas institute and return early to do their thesis in Sri Lanka.
This arrangement is expected to help those who cannot be released from their positions for a long period.
