Legendary rock band ‘The Who’ to release new album

The legendary rock band The Who will be regrouping to release a new album this year. The surviving members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend are making the first band album after 13 years. Reports say 15 demo tracks have been made while vocal addition etc is also in the process. The Who will undertake a tour starting at New York’s Madison Square in April. The tour is expected to feature a symphony orchestra at each stop. In the UK, the band is to play at some music festivals as well. Formed in 1964, The Who has to date sold over 100 million records worldwide. The band’s 1969 album was made into film in 1975 and a Broadway musical in 1992. Some of their big songs have been ‘My Generation’ from 1965 and ‘Pinball Wizzard’ from 1968.

Travis Scott contributes towards youth upliftment

US rap star Travis Scott 26 has donated funds towards uplifting the lives of youth in his hometown of Houston in Texas, US. Scott who has seen success from 2018 in his own right and with collaborations, donated $100,000 to the Workshop Houston charity which will be used for youth creative education.

Lady Gaga to remove track with R Kelly from streaming services

Lady Gaga has decided to remove her collaboration ‘Do What U Want’ with the RnB star R. Kelly from streaming services. This follows sexual misconduct allegations against Kelly. Gaga’s song will be removed from iTunes and other streaming services.  Lady Gaga has also decided not to work with Kelly again.

Freya Riding single ‘Lost Without You’ returns to the charts

Freya Ridings’ ‘Lost Without You’ has returned to the UK top 10 singles chart for a fourth time, on this occasion from 12 to 10. On the first run Ridings’ song peaked at 9 last October. On its second and third return last November it peaked at 9 again and right now is at 10 and counting.

The BPI has certified Freya’s ‘Lost Without You’ with a Gold disc.

Streaming service Tidal owned by Jay Z accused of inflating streaming figures

Norway’s National Authority for Prosecution of Economic & Environmental Crime (Okokrim) has launched investigations over allegations the streaming service Tidal owned by Jay Z has inflated streaming figures for Kanye West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ and Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’. Reports suggest a sum of $2.5 million and $3 million has been over paid in royalties to the record labels of the respective artists. Beyonce is the wife of Jay Z.

George Ezra secures fifth UK Top 10 hit

George Ezra secured his fifth UK top 10 song as ‘Hold My Girl’ moved from 14 to No: 8. Ezra’s hit has been drifting on the singles chart since March 2018 thanks to the lyrics video. The official video came out in November 2018 which then helped the song begin its chart journey right down at 93. After 13 weeks ‘Hold My Girl’, a guitar driven grower, zoomed up the chart. The song is a follow up to Ezra’s chart topping song ‘Shotgun’ and is taken off his album ‘Staying At Tamara’s.

Ava Max occupies UK Single’s No: 1 spot

Ava Max has occupied the UK’s singles No: 1 spot for a third week with her debut release ‘Sweet But Psycho’. Her reign this week was largely credited to streaming. The 25 year old US pop singer co-wrote the hit with Andreas Haukerland, Henry Walter, Madison Love and William Lobban-Bean.
