Shooting of Rodney’s ‘Sudu Appachchi’ completed

Seasoned filmmaker and veteran journalist Rodney Widanapathirana’s newest film ‘Sudu Appachchi’ was filmed at Ehetuwewa in Galgamuwa recently.

The story that revolves around a group of children in a rural village and it introduces two new children Avishka Wijeratne and Arosha Wijeratne to the cinema. The main role of the film is played by veteran actor Gamini Samarakone and other roles are played by Ishara Wickremesinghe, Stanley Krishnaraj, Rupa Pathirana, Kelum Dharmadasa and Ranjith Dunusinghe.

The film was also shot in Milano city and scenes in Italy were played by Neshada Jayasinghe among others while special cameraman Sandun Hewage was used for the filming in that country.

‘Sudu Appachchi’ revolves around a 70-year-old elderly man who lives in a rural village. Since he is fair in complexion everyone in the village calls him ‘Sudu Appachchi’. He has a small farm that he runs with the help of his wife and the couple looks after their grandson Avish. Avish’s father lives in Italy, the family wants to send Avish to Italy once he finishes his education.

The peaceful and harmonious life in the village is shattered with the entrance of a drama teacher to the village school from the city. At the same time villagers come across a mysterious man who they think is a ghost. Since the arrival of the graduate drama teacher and the mysterious man, the villagers think that the teacher has a connection with ‘ghost’ who wondered around the city. Because of this the teacher faces many problems and he is even being beaten up by some villagers.

One day Sudu Appachchi’s wife too comes across the ‘ghost’ and she falls ill. With this change of events, it is decided to send Avish to Italy where his parents are.

Produced by RW Productions, cinematographed by Mahendra Senaratne, dialogue and assistant direction is by Marlon Widanapathirana and the film is edited by Pasath Samaraweera.

To the music direction of Visharadha Manoj Peiris, voice renditions for the playback songs are done by Sadew Santhula, Tharudini Methsaura, Thenuka Alagiyawanna and Kithmini Kulathunga.
