Saudi Arabia ups Sri Lanka’s Haj quota

This was announced following the signing of an agreement between Sri Lanka’s Muslim Religious Affairs Minister M.H. Abdul Haleem and Saudi Arabia’s Hajj Affairs Minister in Jedda.
Mr. Haleem said the Saudi Minister had given an assurance to increase the quota of Sri Lankan pilgrims after consulting the Saudi King.
“Initially the Saudi Government had provided a quota of only 2,240 for Sri Lankan pilgrims. This was increased up to 2,800 in the recent past. Early this month, it was increased to 3,000, but after my talks with the Saudi Hajj Minister, the quota was increased to 3,500,” he added.
Minister Haleem thanked King Salman and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for approving the increase in allocation.
The Sri Lankan delegation also included Ambassador Azmi Thasim, Hajj Committee Chairman Dr. M.T Ziyadh and Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry Director M.R.M. Malik.
