Muditha Lakshan a pillar of strength to DSS
Spearheading the batting and bowling departments of DS Senanayake College this season is Muditha Lakshan, their key allrounder. With one more year’s of school cricket left ahead of him, Lakshan will be a cricketer to be reckoned with in the forthcoming season.
So far in this ongoing 2018-19 season, Lakshan has scored 890 runs and captured 45 wickets in 11 outings, with 5 more matches to go. This talented allrounder is confident of reaching the milestone of 1,000 runs and also aiming to capture 70 wickets to close the season with pride.
This right-handed top order batsman’s total number of runs includes 4 well compiled centuries, while his tally of wickets includes 7 5-wicket hauls. His unbeaten 133 against Zahira College and the 6-for against Lumbini MV, stand out.
A cricketer who counts every match as competitive, irrespective of the strength and weakness of his opponents, always gives his best. This benefits his College and himself.
According to Lakshan, as a 4th year coloursman, he has improved in his batting and bowling skills from the experience he gained in previous years. When at the wicket, he spends a little time in reading the bowlers, before he starts out on a mission, adjusting his shots and footwork. When the red cherry is in his hand, this tall left-armer prefers to give the ball a lot of air, in the hope of drawing the batsman out of his crease to meet the ball. This strategy has earned him many wickets. The ability to spin into the right-handers and to spin away and spinning across the left-handed batters, are the main weapons he employs.
Having shots all round the wicket, Lakshan prefers to keep the ball along the ground with perfect timing and placing, with a straight bat. In bowling, he never allows the batsmen to settle, Lakshan is delighted if a batsman comes out of the crease and takes the aerial route.
Lakshan has had a big hand in almost every victory that DS Senanayake College scored, four outright and an equal number of 1st-innings wins.
The only child in his family, Lakshan, speaking to the Sunday Times, paid high tribute to his teammates in supporting him in all 3 departments of the game. He revealed that the interest shown by his parents and the guidance and encouragement of his coaches has helped him to be a player and a gentleman, and direct him on the right path.
