CCC School of Cricket wins Under-13 Inter-Academy Championship again
View(s):CCC School of Cricket, won the Under-13 Inter Academy Cricket Championship for the second successive year, defeating hosts MCA Cricket Academy ‘Blue’ at the MCA Grounds recently.
The tournament was organised and conducted by the Mercantile Cricket Association, participated by a large number of cricket Academies island wide.
CCC Junior cricketers, led by Linal Subasinghe remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, having beaten S.A. Cricket Academy, champs C.A. Panadura Cricket Coaching School and NCC School of Cricket in the preliminary round. In the quarter-finals CCC beat HR Cricket Academy and defeated strong Nondescript school of cricket in the semi final.
In the finals, MCA, batting first were restricted to 145 for 7 wickets in 30 overs with Tenushka Nanayakkara and Prakash Gamaathige capturing two wickets each and in the run chase CCC were helped by a hurricane 40 runs by opener Pravan Williams, and a sedate innings of 62 not out by Sahana Dabare guided CCC for an easy eight wickets win with six overs to spare.
Other players who figured prominently were skipper Linal Subasinghe, Sharujan Shanmuganathan, Pravan Williams, Vice Captain and opening bowler, Uvin Perera and off spinner Prakash Gamaathige who took 13 wickets at an average of 6.8, in the tournament and Tenushka Nanayakkara the other opening bowler. Wicketkeeper Hirun Kapurubandara was outstanding behind the wickets.
Stylish No.3 batsman Sahan Dabare, who top scored in the final with an elegant unbeaten 62, won the handsome player of the final trophy at the awards presentation held at MCA Pavilion with former MCA President Chrya Obesekera as the Chief Guest.
CCC team’s head coach, veteran Nelson Mendis along with assistant coaches Manoj Millawithanachchi and Lasantha Kumara were the men behind the scene of victory.
The champion CCC team was represented by Linal Subasinghe (Capt.), Livin Perera (V. Capt.), Sahan Dabare, Praveen Williams, Prakash Gamaathige, Tenushka Nanayakkara, Sharujan Shanmuganathan, Hirun Kapurubandara, Jassin Rizvi, Aiden Weerasinghe, Aniske Gooneratne, Vihas Karunduwage, Ravindu Sigera, Vidun Weeraddana, Kavishka Tissakuttige and Damien Candaudaarachchi.
