Wesley juniors win Barcelona FA’s 8-a-side Football tournament
View(s):The Wesley College Under-12 team won the Barcelona Football Academy 8-a-side Football Tournament played at the Racecourse ground in Colombo.
Wesley juniors beat Hameed Al-Husseinie College ‘A’ by 1-0 with skipper Raashid Asif scoring the solitary goal of the match. Wesley went on to record a win against Kelaniya Football Academy by 1-0 with Pahan Thathsara Perera netting the only goal.
They reached the semi-final stage to meet hosts Barcelona Football Academy ‘A’ and record a 1-0 win with Arishek taking the honour of scoring the goal for the winners. This enabled them a slot in the final where Wesley were drafted to meet Barcelona Football Academy ‘B’. The match was an enthralling encounter where it ended in a 1-all tie, with skipper Asif scoring a goal for Wesley.
Eventually the winner had to be decided through a penalty shootout as Wesley recorded a 3-1 win with twins Arishek and Abishek and skipper Asif scoring the winning goals. Wesley College went on to bag two individual awards as Nimsheth Warnakulasooriya was named the Best Player of the Final and D. Abishek bagging the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament. The team was led by Raashid Asif while Danesh Kumar was the coach of the winning side.
