Educational travel specialists Flooglebinder, offering opportunities for volunteer conservation and community projects in Africa, Europe and Asia, recently conducted a programme in Sri Lanka with  59 volunteers from UK , Australia, Germany, India, Middle East, Switzerland, China, Colombia, Canada and South Africa. The organization aims to design adventures to inspire change, share core values, connect and educate the younger generation and encourage conservation.

The volunteer projects in Sri Lanka  involved planting orange plants as a fence and the construction of a school building  in a village in Hadungamuwa in Wasgamuwa. The volunteers who worked on Project Orange Elephant (POE) worked  with multiple farmers planting in excess of 200 trees. The Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society also facilitated support for the project. The orange tree fencing is believed to keep wild elephants away while offering villagers a means of earning a living. Captured here are images of the volunteers at work.
