DS Senanayake Library Kandy goes digital
View(s):DS Senanayake Library developed out the of public funds from the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC), is the first outside Colombo to go digital. Already 90,000 books have been fed into computers to be issued to members, and also for easy reference within the Library. Inaugurated in 2015, the Library is ready to issue books on digital membership cards. At the moment books are issued using ‘Bar Codes’ on the reverse of the membership card.
The Library was declared the best developing Library in the Central Province by the Ministry of Local Government. During the course of development, a grant of Rs 2.5 million was awarded by the Chinese government towards the continued Digitisation of the Library. The Resource was offered by the Open University for the Automation of the Library.
The Automation of the Library commenced with the Chief Librarian at the time, Ms.Daya Ratnayake and was continued by Ms. Savithri Illangasinghe with Ms Chamila Yapa as the coordinator.
