Superhero Kusal carries Lanka to spectacular victory

What appeared to be yet another debacle for Sri Lanka eventually turned out to be a miracle in Durban yesterday. Cricket’s glorious uncertainties were splashed across the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, when the superhero, Kusal Perera, and last man Vishwa Fernando in a spectacular and nail-biting partnership carried Sri Lanka to one of their most memorable victories in recent years. The 28-year-old Kusal, whose unbeaten innings of 153 was the highest by a Sri Lankan in South Africa, and Vishwa are seen here expressing their jubilation as millions of people also clapped and danced back home in Sri Lanka as they watched at prime time live on TV. Sri Lanka which needed 304 for victory were at one point 226 for 9, but a sensational 78-run partnership between Kusal and Vishwa carried them to the spectacular victory by a largely young and new team captained for the first time by 30-year-old Dimuth Karunaratne.
