Gavel conducts a workshop for Enliven 2019
View(s):On the 17th of February, 2019, The Gavel Club of University of Colombo organized a workshop for students interested in speech and for the contestants of the competitions which are to be held in the near future, as the first step of ‘Enliven 2019’. The workshop commenced at 9 am at PLT Hall, Faculty of Science in University of Colombo.
It comprised of two sessions; Evaluation Speech and Humorous Speech. The first session, Evaluation Speech, was done by Toastmaster Sandun Fernando who was the district 82 champion. During this session, he explained on how an evaluation is done for a speech in a competition. He got a test speaker from the audience as well, and evaluated and gave the audience an opportunity to do so, while stressing on the important factors that they have to pay attention to.
The second session, Humorous Speech was done by Toastmaster Shamen Sameera. He was the champion of the humorous speech competition from the district 82. Starting off with his competition speech, he guided the participants on how to write a humorous speech and encouraged students to come up with their creativity on speech.
In both the sessions, time was allocated for a round of questions from the audience and the speakers answered all the questions, engaging with the audience. Contestants from both the junior and senior categories were present at the workshop.
The workshop concluded successfully around 11.30 am with the active participation from the students and the speakers shared their knowledge as well as their experiences enthusiastically with the audience.
The official print media partner for ‘Enliven 2019’ is Education Times of Sunday Times and the preliminaries for the humorous speech competition and the evaluation competition will be held on the 24th February and the semi final and finals will be held on 10th March and 22nd March respectively.
