Wesley College 145th Founder’s Week celebrations
View(s):Wesley College – a leading Christian boys school in Colombo was founded on March 2, 1874. Every year, the Double Blue Fraternity gathers to celebrate the memory of their founder, the Rev. Daniel Henry Pereira –on Founder’s Day which is the death anniversary of Rev. John Wesley, the great evangelist and founder of the Methodist Church.
This year Wesley College Colombo celebrates its 145th anniversary. In the last 145 years Wesley has opened its doors to provide education for thousands of Sri Lankan boys from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds. Wesley has produced many distinguished alumni, who have contributed invaluable service to society, the nation and the world.
The Founder’s Week celebrations, a most important event in the school calendar is held this weekend with special assemblies, hockey, football, basketball, water polo and cricket matches between past and present students, the traditional OBU lunch and the Principal’s Tea Party hosted by the Principal Avanka Fernando. Today, Sunday March 3, there will be a Special Thanksgiving Founder’s Day Service at the College Chapel at 8.30 a.m.
