Practical & Technology Skills Teacher Trainer removed- CTU
View(s):The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) branch in Nuwara Eliya last week charged that the Hatton Zonal Education Office has removed the reserve teacher for Practical & Technology Skills for schools in Division 3 of the Hatton Education Zone (HEZ).
CTU Secretary V. Indraselvan alleged that the teacher, M. Muthukumar was removed from his post following a complaint made by students to the Human Rights Commission (HRC).
Last month, Mr. Muthukumar had accompanied 7 students of Kaduwela Vigneshwar Tamil Vidyalayam to the HRC to complain against the Hatton Zonal Director P. Siridharan for not allowing these 7 students to sit their 2018 GCE Ordinary Level exams.
Mr. Sridharan reportedly admitted that 159 students were not allowed to sit the 2018 GCE OL exams, as they were assessed to be weak in their studies and hence, would not produce good results.
Mr. Muthukumar is a specialised trained teacher in the Practical & Technology Skills, a new subject introduced in schools. He visited 36 schools in Division 3 of the HEZ, providing expertise to all teachers engaged in the teaching of this subject.
Central Province Additional Provincial Director A.S. Satyendera said that she too had received complaints from the aggrieved party (Mr Muthukumar) on the discontinuation of his service.
“I have written to the Hatton Zonal Director P. Sridharan, requesting for details and am awaiting his response,” she said.
